Which brain waves are you surfing?

Hello soul surfer,
Hope you and your loved ones are feeling safe, supported and nourished.
As we surf these unknown waters and waves together, I sense you may be experiencing some unease, discomfort and stress.
When I was teaching these last two weeks down in Mexico, one of my favorite topics kept coming up, the brain.
A member of my audience recently experienced a stroke. As we were discussing how to help your organs function more efficiently through nutrition and emotional intelligence, she had an a-ha moment around anger regarding her stroke. She thought she ‘worked’ through it. The work resides in our cells and body for a while until we continue to FEEL, process and nurture ourselves. I gave her some foods that support the liver as she feels the anger and helps her body FEEL AND HEAL.
The brain consists of two hemispheres that are connected by our corpus collosum. The more we utilize BOTH sides of our brain, the better chance we have at feeling more peaceful, connected and can process stress better.
Our right hemisphere is the PRESENT moment, right here, right now. This side of our brain is receiving information from our environment as visual pictures. Then our senses such as taste, feel, smell, and touch chime in with their observations.
Our left hemisphere is taking the right brain pictures and categorizing these to associate them with what we have learned in the past. It is the little voice that is our calculating intelligence to tell you to pick up the dry cleaning and get things done.
Now in our brain, we have our brain waves, Brain waves are patterns of electrical activity occurring in the brain. They are crucial to all aspects of brain functioning: thoughts, emotions, and behaviors
Delta brainwaves are slow, loud brainwaves (low frequency and deeply penetrating, like a drumbeat). They are generated in deepest meditation and dreamless sleep. Delta waves suspend external awareness and are the source of empathy. Healing and regeneration are stimulated in this state, and that is why deep restorative sleep is so essential to the healing process.
Theta brainwaves occur most often in sleep but are also dominant in deep meditation. Theta is our gateway to learning, memory, and intuition. In theta, our senses are withdrawn from the external world and focused on signals originating from within. In theta we are in a dream; vivid imagery, intuition and information beyond our normal conscious awareness. It’s where we hold our ‘stuff’, our fears, troubled history, and nightmares.
Alpha brainwaves are dominant during quietly flowing thoughts, and in some meditative states. Alpha is ‘the power of now’, being here, in the present. Alpha is the resting state of the brain. Alpha waves aid overall mental coordination, calmness, alertness, mind/body integration and learning.
Beta brainwaves dominate our normal waking state of consciousness when attention is directed towards cognitive tasks and the outside world. Beta is a ‘fast’ activity, present when we are alert, attentive, engaged in problem-solving, judgment, decision making, or focused mental activity.
Gamma brainwaves are the fastest of brain waves (high frequency, like a flute), and relate to the simultaneous processing of information from different brain areas. Gamma brainwaves pass information rapidly and quietly. The most subtle of the brainwave frequencies, the mind has to be quiet to access gamma. Gamma was dismissed as ‘spare brain noise’ until researchers discovered it was highly active when in states of universal love, altruism, and the ‘higher virtues’. (RESOURCE)
