What is acai?
Is is a berry that comes from the acai palm tree (Euterpe oleracea), which is native to Central and South America. Research on the acai berry has focused on its possible antioxidant activity. Antioxidants are essential for removing free radicals caused by oxidative stress in the body, which damages cells.
The concept of food combining is to support optimal digestion. Fruit separate from meals helps with breaking down proteins and starch more effectively versus the sugar from the fruit causing a fermenting reaction during digestion.

I personally don’t prefer an acai bowl alone for breakfast. The sugar content is a bit too high for me and gives me foggy brain for a couple hours, however mixed with nuts, coconut flakes, and minus the granola I can tolerate it a bit better. The cooling effect of an acai bowl is great to have if your body tends to run hot and if you consume processed foods or alcohol often.
