A client was reviewing why it felt so easy when we initially starting working together. And now it is not easy. I was listening and of course, had a list of logical ideas to give her.
But instead of that list, I asked her this. Were you critical of yourself at the beginning? No.
Are you critical of yourself now? Yes.
On a scale of 1-10? 10+
I can relate. The more critical I am with myself, the more I do NOT like my photos, don’t fit in my jeans, have more judgment, guilt and obsessive thoughts.
How critical are you with yourself and others?
When are we going to be enough for ourselves and others and not live from GUILT of not enoughness and worthiness? Somehow, we got trained to chase after being enough and fight for our worth.
What if we are enough and worthy right now?
I see my gorgeous mom friends have mom guilt trying to balance time with each child, provide presents, experiences and constantly try to make them feel loved. That chase will never ease it until we CLAIM we are doing our best.
Here is a fun story. I was daydreaming and visualizing about calling in a new man in my life. And in this daydream, he had a dog too. I began to worry and feel guilty that I was paying more attention to his dog than mine. What The HECK (WTH). Where does this come from? How did an imaginary daydream make me worry, tense up and stress over fake guilt?
This is how.
Our subconscious programming.
Deep in my subconscious, I created a pattern of worry to sabotage my true desires which cause distractions. I am not scared of being abandoned by others, instead, I am fearful of abandoning myself and my own instincts.
Our subconscious programming happens between the ages of 0-9. We are learning from our environment, family, friends, and community how to survive and thrive in the world.
“Your subconscious mind is an unquestioning servant that works day and night to make your behavior fits a pattern consistent with your emotionalized thoughts, hopes, and desires. Your subconscious mind grows either flowers or weeds in the garden of your life, whichever you plant by the mental equivalents you create.
Your subconscious mind has what is called a homeostatic impulse. Through your autonomic nervous system, it maintains a balance among the hundreds of chemicals in your billions of cells so that your entire physical machine functions in complete harmony most of the time.”-Brian Tracy
Your subconscious mind also practices homeostasis in your mental and emotional realm, by keeping you thinking and acting in a manner consistent with what you have done and said in the past. All of these habits are stored in your subconscious mind to keep you in your COMFORT zones.
When you feel this guilt/shame/discomfort loop, What do you do? Distract yourself? Dive into it? I can feel my body get stressed just by typing this.
When do we get done working with our subconscious? NEVER!
